Drama - Italy.
Film-maker Niccoló Farra doesn’t have a clear idea about his next film beyond the fact that it’s about a woman. At his sister’s clinic, he encounters Mavi. Their affair, turns passionate and volatile, his obsession for Mavi turning paranoid as he suspects their movements are being watched. Her disappearance from his life leaves him destroyed. A fresh relationship with Ida brings some form of stability as Niccoló attempts to resolve the crisis that envelops his art and life, one inseparable from the other.
Identification of a Woman, Michelangelo Antonioni’s penultimate feature, marked a return to Italy after an interim period dedicated to international productions (Blow-Up, The Passenger). It revisits the themes of his 60s works (L’Avventura), while breaking new ground in its impressionistic narrative and its unaffected visual style. Described as one of the greatest Italian films of the 80s, it reveals a film pioneer committed to documenting the tensions of modernity while placing human relationships at the center.
"Beautifully shot, moody metaphysical drama...in which sex becomes tangled up with art, creativity is a branch of self-knowledge and isolation is the bass note in human experience" - Film4
