Heavenly Sweetness discovered Calypso Rose in the early 2000s through the “Calypso at Dirty Jim’s” project and with it, the richness of Trinidadian music. Since then their paths have not stopped crossing and the music of Trinidad has taken an important part in their record collections but also in the catalog of Heavenly Sweetness. Happy to announce a collaboration between the queen of Calypso and Heavenly Sweetness for a special EP, where the label's artists revisit “Queen Rose”. 

Ten years had passed since Bad Bad Things; it was the occasion to celebrate this decade by reviving its state of mind. The one who mixes collaborations, atmospheres, and styles. Exiled to the green, in musical autarky from several albums, Blundetto has therefore returned to the rhythm of city life and studios. He has changed his way of operating, opened his repertoire, and invited friends to new titles that he had written for them. 

The sweat of the rainforest, the hostility of the mangrove did not suit him in the end. So he left his natural environment for the tranquility of a freshwater lake. Without the constant need to battle to assert its territory, the Tiger found there the ideal place for its instrumental stories. To tell the story of those journeys that took him from Asia to Africa, from soul jazz salons to the concrete streets of hip hop, and transformed his stripes into music sheets where Thai ranges and ethio-jazz arrangements were registered. These journeys, the feline tells them in quartet, the steps of the superpredator inspired by the tenor saxophone of Laurent Bardainne, leader / trainer in the instrument in which are reflected the great figures of free jazz.

For this second round of “Remixes”, “Layla” by Cotonete again passes between the fine ears of producer and talented DJ. The veteran Swiss producer Alex Attias (Vision, Compost Records) transforms this original jazz track into housy tones with what is needed in Brazilian color. In Dub version, DJ Deep and Romain Poncet, also present in the 1st EP proposed, give this music a new darker scope. When Melik from “Heartbeat Vinyl” asked DJ Deep and Romain Poncet for a remix of Cotonete, he didn’t really anticipate that they would feel so inspired that they would come up with 7 different ones… and that all of them would be so good and unique. On this first release of remixes, they literally blew his mind with their take on « Super Vilain Wants Love » taking the original to a all new level, blending afro drumming, dub bassline, and straight to the point key stabs… all based on original stems, but making them their own, it’s almost more reinterpretation than remix. « Layla » on the flip, flows nicely on the house side, with its soft and classy 303 bassline, and soothing vibe, perfect floor starter to a mature dancefloor.

Originally starting out in the late 90s, Paris-based 8 piece, Cotonete originally gained fame for renditions of tracks from their contemporaries, the likes of: Deodato, Lalo Schiffrin andBanda Black Rio. Replicating the heavy grooves, sweaty jazz-funk with a nod to the Brazilian warmth and beach breeze. Before bowing out of the game thinking the fun was over… Fast forward to more recent times, having had their flame reignited by Melik Bencheikh, head honcho of Paris vinyl emporium, Heartbeat Vinyl. He encouraged the band to get back together and over the last two years the band released four EPs of original material –  including the collaboration with Dimitri from Paris – quickly becoming collectors items, and now gearing up for 2019 they are finally ready to present a full body of work, their album debut ‘Super Vilains’.
