JAZZMAN

Jazz

Shades of Blue was the first Lansdowne outing of the Rendell Carr Quintet, and is an interesting contrast to the increasingly idiosyncratic and complex later works. If those later ’60s albums were landmarks in truly British modern jazz, this first 1964 recording reflects more American influence. The band played together for seven years and during this fruitful time they made a plethora of deeply melodic, post-bop British jazz compositions that later on took influences from Indo and more spiritually guided jazz. This is UK jazz at it's absolute finest and is a treasure not to be missed. Original replica flipback color sleeves; 180 gram vinyl, mastered from the original master tapes at Abbey Road Studios, London; poly-lined and printed individual inner sleeves; contains link to online PDF with printable liner notes.

BROWNSWOOD RECORDINGS

Jazz

A primer on London’s bright-burning young jazz scene, this new compilation brings together a collection of some of its sharpest talents. A set of nine newly-recorded tracks, We Out Here captures a moment where genre markers matter less than raw, focused energy. Looking at the album’s running order, it could easily serve as a name-checking exercise for some of London’s most-tipped and hardworking bands of the past couple of years. Recorded across three long, fruitful days in a North West London studio, the crossover between each of the groups speaks to the close-knit circles which make up the scene.

Hip-Hop

In the 4 years after The Clipse dropped their sophomore classic Lord Willin’ the duo was able to build a legacy that had fans hungry for new material. After the smoke cleared and they hit the studio the Virginia brothers recorded the confidently mature sophomore effort, Hell Hath No Fury. Best known for their unconventional radio smash “Grindin’ ” Clipse are no strangers to taking risks with the boundary-pushing Neptunes, who return as trusted co-pilots for Hell Hath No Fury. Get On Down issues this Neptunes produced favorite on LP for the first time ever with the first run on white vinyl.

BROWNSWOOD RECORDINGS

Jazz

This debut album, by prodigious keys player, composer and producer Joe Armon-Jones, is buoyant, celebratory and welcoming. With a background in jazz, he draws from influences in dub, hip-hop and soul. Different traditions are infused and commingled together. Soulful brass arrangements are coloured with carefully-tuned atmospherics; individual flashes of brilliance are bound into the album’s bigger picture. He’s part of London’s young, jazz-influenced music scene. Drawn from that same close-knit circle, the album features the likes of Moses Boyd, Nubya Garcia and Oscar Jerome. It’s playing with those – along with Ezra Collective, which he co-founded, and touring with the likes of Ata Kak and Pharoahe Monch – which has honed his playing and grown his ideas.

QUIET MONEY

Hip-Hop

Following the success of his 2005 release A.W.O.L., AZ struck again a mere year later with a new studio release, The Format, released AZ’s own label, Quiet Money. After a decade in the game, A.W.O.L. brought AZ back to the forefront and among his rightful place as one of Hip Hop’s most elite visceral lyricists; and The Format only solidified his already legendary status. AZ’s vision and lyrical power-to-paint pictures have long been celebrated by critics and fans alike. This album is a rock-solid collection of 12 tracks, led by the DJ Premier produced title track, as Primo and AZ rekindled the seamless chemistry they previously demonstrated on 2005’s “The Come Up.”
