At the age of 28, Awalom Gebremariam arrived in the United States, following a years-long journey from Eritrea. He’d made it to a refugee camp in Ethiopia several years ago and eventually attained asylum status for passage to America. But before he left his hometown, Eritrea’s capital Asmara, he made his first and only recording so far, Desdes.

The Baby Huey Story: The Living Legend is the only album of Baby Huey that has been released to date. It was put together and released in 1971 after his death. The title refers to the "legend" of Baby Huey that survives after his death. A quarter century after its release, "The Baby Huey Story" went on to become a cult classic among soul musicians and hip-hop fans. Its single "Hard Times" in particular has been sampled many times, by artists such as Ice Cube, A Tribe Called Quest, and Ghostface Killah, and was covered by John Legend & The Roots in 2010 for the album Wake Up!

"Do They Know It's Christmas?" is a song written in 1984 by Bob Geldof and Midge Ure in reaction to television reports of the 1983–1985 famine in Ethiopia. It was first recorded in a single day on 25 November 1984 by Band Aid, a supergroup put together by Geldof and Ure and consisting mainly of the biggest British and Irish musical acts at the time.

Propositions is an album by the Memphis, Tennessee-based R&B group The Bar-Kays, released on Mercury Records in November 1982. The album reached number nine on the Billboard R&B albums chart and contained three hits: the uptempo singles "Do It (Let Me See You Shake)" and "She Talks To Me With Her Body", plus the Bar-Kays' most popular ballad "Anticipation".
