The William Claxton Collection, Compilation, Stereo, Mono, 180 gram vinyl LP in Gatefold packaging In his dual role as a trumpeter and as a singer, Chet was one of the undisputed masters of the jazz ballad able to reach climaxes of intense feeling and intimacy. What better to illustrate this LP that two photographs of Chet with a lover on the cover, girlfriend Liliane Cukier in Hollywood 1955 and inside, with his wife, Halema Alli in Redondo Beach, 1956. The photographs of William Claxton define the essence of cool – his stunningly intimate images of icons like Chet Baker combine technical innovation and an unerring sense of the moment to forge a singular aesthetic he defined as ‘jazz for the eyes’ - Jason Ankeny (AllMusic)

Jazz

Limited Edition, Reissue, Stereo, 180 gram vinyl LP in Gatefold packaging Chet Baker recorded Chet Is Back! on January 5, 1962, just three weeks after having been released from his drug-related imprisonment in Italy. He was accompanied on the LP by a number of highly talented European players, among them two Belgian stars: tenor saxophonist, flutist and composer Bobby Jaspar, and guitarist René Thomas. Both musicians had their own drug problems (Jaspar would die from a heart attack on February 28, 1963, at the age of 37; Thomas would follow on January 3, 1975, aged 47). Baker didn’t sing on this album, which features him performing spirited trumpet solos. Matt Collar gave the LP a four-star rating in AllMusic Guide. “Recorded in Italy in 1962,” wrote Collar, “Chet Is Back! showcases the ‘cool’ trumpeter cutting loose on such bop-oriented workouts as ‘Pent-Up House’ and ‘Well, You Needn’t’. Backed skillfully by a young cadre of up-and-coming European musicians, including the stellar saxophonist Bobby Jaspar, Chet Baker may have never sounded better, including the ballads. One listen to ‘Over the Rainbow’ and it’s clear this is an overlooked Baker classic.”

VINYL PASSION

Funk Jazz Soul

Alto and tenor saxophonist David "Fathead" Newman was best known as sideman and soloist with Ray Charles. During the fifties, when Ray Charles was touring with his hits like "What'd I Say", "Talking About You", etc., he thought that his band, and his tenor man, David Newman, were so strong that they needed to record a straight ahead jazz album of their own. That album became "Ray Charles Presents David Newman". On that album there's also Hank Crawford playing on baritone sax, and trumpeter Marcus Belgrave, bassist Edgar Willis, drummer William Peeples and of course Ray Charles on piano, playing very strong solos. Is Ray Charles a great bebop player? Of course he is!

Original Album + 4 Bonus Tracks On 180g Vinyl LP, 180g. ‘St. Louis Blues’ is a 1958 album and soundtrack to the film of the same name starring Nat King Cole. The film is about and features classic blues songs written by the "father of the blues" W.C. Handy. Beautiful orchestration by Nelson Riddle and excellent interpretations by that wonderful unique smooth voice from Nat King Cole who knew how to sing the blues. Handy took the blues from a regional music style (Delta blues) with a limited audience to a new level of popularity. Handy’s finest compositions includes "Memphis Blues", "Yellow Dog Blues", "Beale Street Blues," "Careless Love" and of course the title song "St. Louis Blues".

Blues

Exlusive Limited Edition Of 500copies, 180 Gram Vinyl — Audiophile Pressing, Includes 2 Bonus Tracks This essential release presents the blues masterwork "Slim’s Shout" (released on Prestige/Bluesville in 1961). The album was recorded by Rudy Van Gelder in his studio at Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey, and features Slim as a leader, accompanied by Curtis and other jazz session players from the New York City scene, such as organist Robert Banks, bassist Leonard Gaskin, and drummer Belton Evans. Here Sunnyland Slim runs through a bunch of his own standards in pristine stereo sound. Highlights include “The Devil Is a Busy Man,” “Shake It,” and “It’s You Baby,” as well as the remake of “Sunnyland Special” – one of Slim’s most celebrated tunes. Even though the original liner notes to "Slim’s Shout" state that it was his debut album, he had actually previously recorded an LP titled "Chicago Blues Session" for the small local label 77 Records. The 2 bonus tracks contained on this collector’s LP vinyl limited edition, “Everytime I Get to Drinkin’” and an earlier reading of “Brownskin Woman,” belong to Chicago Blues Session.

This was the first of various collaborations between Dolphy and Hubbard, and one of the very best.
