Groomed from an early age for Motown stardom, Stevie Wonder mastered the label’s distinctive fusion of pop and soul, inflected with the energy of jazz and R&B. Nearly everything he recorded bore the stamp of his sunny, joyous positivity. Even when he addressed serious racial, social, and spiritual issues, or sang about heartbreak and romantic uncertainty, an underlying sense of optimism and hope always seemed to emerge.

During his first three years in show business, Wonder was presented as an R&B screamer in the Ray Charles mold.

This quintessential release presents Little Stevie Wonder’s first two LPs: his instrumental debut The Jazz Soul of Little Stevie, and Tribute to Uncle Ray, which were both produced by Clarence Paul and originally issued by Tamla Records in 1962.

Wonder was extremely sophisticated for his age. His talents as a singer, percussionist, chromatic harmonica player, keyboardist, and composer are widely evident here. These two magnificent albums have been remastered and packaged together in this very special collector’s edition, which also includes 5 bonus tracks, consisting of hard to find sides from the same period.
